Directions to the Ride Start:
From California Highway 101, take the Fernbridge/Ferndale exit.
Cross Historic Fernbridge and drive through three miles of pastoral
views to the beginning of Ferndale's Main Street. When entering
Ferndale turn right onto Van Ness Street and go 1/4 mile to the
Start/Finish line at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds . The Fernbridge/Ferndale
exit is located on Highway 101 between the cities of Eureka and
Fortuna.
Tour Description
100 Mile Tour: You will be going south
from Ferndale, along the Blue Slide Road and into Rio Dell, travel
the Avenue of the Giants, up Panther Gap, down into the Mattole
Valley, along the ocean then up the wall -- the Endless Hills
-- down the Wildcat back into Ferndale. You will have ridden one
of the world's toughest 100 mile courses when you complete this
great ride.
10 Mile Farm Tour, 20 Mile Family Fun Ride,
50 Mile Challenge & 100 KM Citizens Rides:
The 20 Mile and 50 Mile Rides follow Blue Slide Road and then
return along the same route to Ferndale. Although these are easier
rides, there are still some hills! The 10 mile Farm Tour has no
hills at all. A safe, easy, scenic ride through the Ferndale farmlands
which is closed to vehicular traffic.
New! 100 Kilometer Challenge
Want more than 50 miles, but aren't ready for the full 100-miler? Ride the new
100K (62 miles). It follows the same up and back route as the 50-miler, but
continues on from the 50-mile turnaround with an added 6-mile out & back
section of the beautiful Avenue of the Giants for a total of 62 miles.
50 Mile Challenge
This beautiful ride travels through the Eel River Valley to Rio
Dell, down Hwy. 101 S and on to the Avenue of the Giants. There
is a full lunch stop with water, fruit, bagels and sandwiches
at the Immortal Tree, the turnaround for this challenging ride.
Then head back to Ferndale for a great lunch and your patch.
20 Mile Family Fun Ride
This ride is for those who don't like hills. There is one very
small climb leaving Ferndale as you head out through the scenic
Eel River Valley. A Rest Stop with water, fruit and cookies will
welcome you at the turnaround on Price Creek Road. One-speed bikes
not recommended for this ride.
10 Mile Farm Tour
This ride has NO hills at all and stays off main roads. A safe,
easy, scenic ride through the Ferndale farmlands. Fruit, cookies
and water at the turnaround. We recommend this ride for families
with young children. Roads closed to vehicular traffic on this
course only.

Tour of the Unknown Coast Century Ride
Riders can expect to experience a variety of weather changes. Inland
can be warm, while the higher altitudes can be cold, and the area
along the ocean is usually windy. Riders should come prepared. At
AW Way Park there is a full lunch provided: Water, fruit, bagels,
sandwiches and cookies. This is a rain or shine ride.
SAG WAGONS NOT ALLOWED... Please do
NOT bring a support vehicle/sag wagon. The additional congestion
and pollution are not welcome! There will be ample support and
food on the course. Bike mechanics will be available at the start
and selected poi nts on all courses. Having people follow you
and support you is not necessary or appreciated.
For Your Protection:
- Helmets Are Required
- All riders will be assigned a number. You must affix it to
the front of your bike so it is visible to support personnel.
- Safety Rules MUST be observed at all times
- Stop at all stop signs
- RIDE SINGLE FILE on the right side of the roadway -- leave
adequate stopping distance between riders
- Obey all traffic laws
- Observe good road manners
- Make sure your bike is in good condition -- especially your
brakes -- especially your brakes
- All riders MUST carry some form of identification, including
your emergency contact phone number. Every minor MUST carry
a medical release form signed by parent or guardian. If you
have a medical alert bracelet, please wear it.
- NOTE: Multi-geared bikes strongly recommended. One-speed bikes
limited to the 10 mile Farm Tour.
- Wave to the cows and talk to the giants.
Accident Reporting -- All riders are
required to report any type of accident or injury to a check point
official or radio person. You are responsible for your own medical
insurance. Read the Release/Waiver form.
FOOD & WATER will be provided for
all riders. Major food stops will be at Immortal Tree and A.W.
Way Park. There will be some food and water at all Rest Stops
and Aid Stations.
Food & Snacks at Rest Stops & Turn Arounds:
Fruit (apples, bananas, oranges), Cookies, Bagels (with cream
cheese or peanut butter & jelly), Sandwiches, Beverages, Calistoga
Spring Water, Cytomax Drink Mix (fruit, cookies and beverages
only at 10 & 20 mile Rest Stops).
Lunch at Ferndale Fairgrounds -- All you can eat buffet-style
Lunch after your ride. Hot Dogs for kids and juice bars for dessert.
Litter -- remember this is a beautiful
scenic ride, please NO Litter. Keep your Power Bar wrappers in
your pocket.
Patches -- patches will be awarded
to all riders upon completion of their ride at the Fairgrounds.
Our tradition is to give patches to finishers only.
T-Shirts -- You may purchase a beautiful
commemorative t-shirt, long sleeved, with a multi-colored design
for only $17 before April 20th or $20 the day of the ride. Other
items available for purchase are: Hooded sweat shirts 30.00 in
advance and 35.00 the day of the event. Caps 12.00 in advance
and 15.00 the day of the event. See
